Eightfold Functionalization of the Octasilsesquioxane Core

Naturforsch. 49b, 1689-1692 (1994); received May 17, 1994 Octasilsesquioxanes, Hydrosilylation, Siloxanes, Ferrocenes, Carboranes Eightfold functionalized octasilsesquioxanes (R8Si80 12) are synthesized using the hydro­ silylation method. Different types of groups R, consisting of an ( 0 S iM e 2(CH2)2) spacer unit and various terminal units ( -C H 2(C2M e)B1oH1o, C 5H3MeMn(CO)3, -S iM e2C5H4FeC5H 5 , -S iM e2Cl, -SiM eCl2, -S i(O E t)3) have been introduced. The hydro­ silylation products have been characterized by ‘H, 13C, 29Si NMR and infrared spectroscopy and elemental analysis. The redox properties of the ferrocenyl substituted compound have been studied by cyclovoltammetry.
